If you’ve stayed in France for one year, you’re eligible for doing an apprenticeship (called an alternance). This requires finding a company.
Double, triple, quadruple check all your documents! The Prefecture never makes exceptions, and by the time you’re stopped at the security check, it’ll be too late to go home and come back.
If you’re told to show up between 14h and 15h30, show up at 15h! Your first thought might have been to show up early, but everyone has this idea, and it means there’s a line around the block, and no one gets in faster.
This is a tip I got from a security guard at the Prefecture the last time I went. I told him: “This is my second time doing this, and it’s just as crazy this time as last time. What can I do better for next time?!” He told me that once you’re in the line, everyone gets in, so don’t bother trying to show up first. Proving his point, I was leaving at 15h, and there was only one person outside the gate currently being let in; that’s way better than the line of 50 people I was stuck with in the hot sun.
