🔋 Places to Study
- The University Library (La Bibliothèque Pierre Sineux) — I love the vibe here! This library is essentially a modern temple to knowledge and community. Not only do they have a ton of books, but they have a music room with instruments (eg. electric guitar, piano, drum kit, bass guitar), they have a bunch of funky (or regular) seating, and they regularly run workshops. There’s even a TV with video games on the main floor.
- Moho — this coworking space is open to the public, including a bar and a restaurant. This is a good chance to meet some French people, if you’re looking to practice, and many of the people here speak English. Thursday nights around 18h30 there’s an afterwork party at the bar.
- The Caen City Library (La bibliothèque Alexis de Tocqueville) — I’ll grant that I have the least to say for this library, but since it’s on Campus 1, it’s gotta be on the list for its convenience.
- International Languages Library (Bibliothèque des Langues Vivantes Étrangères) — Here you can find the university’s collection of books in other languages. Although you can’t take the dictionaries out with you, this could be a good place to go if you wanted a physical one in your choice language.
🕺 Student Associations
- ESN Caen (Erasmus Student Network — Caen) — these guys are a great group, and they sometimes organize deals with bars and nightclubs to get a discount on drinks. In the past, they’ve likewise organized reduced rates for going ice skating, and my favorite of all their events are the “Café Polyglottes” where there are tables dedicated to a bunch of different languages, so you can mix around and try the language you’d like.
- Bienvenue à Caen — these folks are really nice, connecting French families with exchange students. I haven’t done this, but I’ve only heard good things.
- Erasmus Fun — I’ve had an awesome time going on trips with these guys, and the guides can speak English.
There’s another group like bienvenue a caen, what’re they called…
⚽️ Sports
SUAPS costs €30 for the entire year, and it gives access to a bunch of group or individual sports. I used it to play soccer, but I have friends who’ve taken samba dancing classes, gone rock climbing with a group, or gone swimming individually. It’s a good deal.
